Speak, I pray Thee, Gentle Jesus

These are the tipe of songs that the people sang during the Welch Revival. Speak, I pray Thee, Gentle Jesus!
Do we also have the desire to hear Jesus speaking to us?
Or are we so occupied with our lives and duties, with the world and our problems that we have no inclination to listen to the voice of Jesus. Everything must happen in a hurry and quickly.  Where is the desire to meet together with other Christians to build one another up with song, prayer and hearing God’s Word. And even helping one another where there is a need. Oh that the love of Christ will abound with us richly!

Speak! I pray Thee, gentle Jesus!

Lyrics of the song:

1. Speak, I pray Thee, gentle Jesus
O, how passing sweet Thy words
Breathing o’er my troubled spirit
Peace which never earth affords
All the world’s distracting voices
All the tempting tones of ill
At Thy voice, so mild, melodious
Are subdued and all is still

2. Tell me Thou art mine, O Savior
Speak a true assurance clear
Banish all my dark misgivings
Still my doubting, calm my fear
In Thy righteousness I’ll triumph
In Thy wisdom I’ll be wise
In Thy robes I’m perfect beauty
In Thy power I’ll arise

BRIDGE:
I’ll arise, in Thy power, I’ll arise
I’ll arise, I’ll arise, in Thy power, I’ll arise
I’ll arise, I’ll arise, in Thy power, I’ll arise

OUTRO:
Speak, I pray Thee, gentle Jesus
O, how passing sweet Thy words
Breathing o’er my troubled spirit
Peace which never earth affords
All the world’s distracting voices
All the tempting tones of ill
At Thy voice, so mild, melodious
Are subdued
In Thy righteousness I’ll triumph
In Thy wisdom I’ll be wise
In Thy robes I’m perfect beauty
In Thy power I’ll arise
